    Corbett Park:
  A tribute to the great humanitarian
  Photo Story – S.Rajen Todariya  Although Corbett national park is known for its rich flora & fauna but the people of Uttrakhand knows this park for  the legendary hunter of history Jim Corbett. Who was the savior of their ancestor’s life in the dark half of 20 the century. Jim was born in Nainital. He studied at Sherwood college in Nainital . He served army as colonel. Kumaun and Garhwal was under the tremendous terror of man eating leopard from the year1910 to 1938. More than 150 hill people were killed by the man eater of Rudraprayag in ten years from 1919 to 1928. This notorious man eater terrorized the Dozens of villages of Rudraprayag area. His first success came when he hunted down the man eater of Chamawat. This man eater was alone responsible for 436 official deathsJim Corbett was hunted a dozen man eaters between 1907 and 1938. He put his life under great threat for the sake of helpless people of Uttrakhand hills, who were living in primitive conditions .He was the only British who commanded great respect among the hill people . He had left so many legends behind him. Corbett national park, named after him, was a tribute to that great hunter and naturalist. This park is a paradise for the bird watchers as well as wild life lovers of the world. Over 600 species of birds, more than 600 species of trees and 4 species of deer were found in this park.
