N.D. Tiwari opposes the central Govt's decision

Ex C.M., Ex central minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari expressed his anger over the Central Govt’s decision to close down the Loharinaag Pala project on the midway. Describing it an anti Uttrakhandi step Tiwari said that it bound to creat a deep power crisis in Uttrakhand and northern India.
In a letter to P.M. Manmohan Singh and Montek Singh Ahaluwalia, Vice chairman Planning Commission Tiwari told them that over 750 crores of public money has been spent in the three projects including Loharinaag Pala, Pala Maneri and Bharonghati hydro projects. He said that development of Uttrakhand is impossible without generating hydro power from the Big rivers like Bhagirathi and Alaknanda. He said that the economy of Uttrakhand cannot survive with out the exploitation of hydro power. He said center’s decision is unfortunate and uncalled for. It will hamper the pace of development in Uttrakhand. He demanded immediate meeting of Ganga Basin Authority, so that work on these projects can be started as soon as possible.
